I want to hit the ball harder and farther

Every hitter wants that. More pop off the bat, balls jumping off the barrel, the kind of contact that makes everyone turn their head. The truth is, hitting the ball harder and farther isn’t just about raw strength. It’s about bat speed, timing, and mechanics working together.

You can build all three with the right training tools and a focused routine. Weighted bats and resistance trainers help increase bat speed and power. A good batting tee or swing trainer keeps your mechanics clean and repeatable. And if you combine that with regular reps off a pitching machine or soft toss net, you’ll start feeling the ball explode off your bat.

The goal isn’t to swing harder. It’s to swing faster and cleaner, through the ball. That’s what creates power you can actually control.

Look. There's no secret to hitting the ball harder and farther. If there was everyone would find out and do it. It takes hard work, practice, and discipline. If you have those three then there's only a couple of items, you need to make it easier for you.

You need the right bat.

Hit Harder

A bat is more than just a stick. It’s a tool for transferring energy from your body into the baseball. The farther you can hit the ball comes down to how much energy you deliver at the moment of contact. Picking a light-weight bat that has a lot of pop is typically all you really need from a bat. A light-weight bat allows you to swing faster which means further hits. More pop off the bat means more energy is transferred into the ball (not absorbed by the bat) which means it's going further. Here's my top three bat choices:

  1. USA certified Marucci CATX2 Connect Baseball Bat best USA certified bat for the price. But there are a ton of options for USA certified bats.
  2. BBCOR certified DeMarini 2026 Exile Cyborg is best BBCOR bat on the market. I love the pink too. I think a waggle of a pink bat will distract some pitchers and make them more likely to miss their spots.
  3. USSSA certified Rawlings | 2026 | ICON Baseball Bat is the best USSSA bat on the market.

I like Amazon because of their easy return policy. Buy a bat, don't like it? Return it. But if you want to get a feel for a bat before you buy call your local Dick's Sporting Goods. Some of them have batting cages where you can try a bat before you buy.

Get GOOD Batting Gloves

Bruce Bolt Gloves

As I said before, if you want to hit the ball further you need to take a lot of reps. The last thing you want is your body failing you before your mind wants to quit. Getting good batting gloves can make the difference between blisters after 100 swings, 1,000 swings, or 10,000 swings. The other thing I look for in baseball gloves is durability. The second to last thing you want is to go out to take some swings and rip your gloves. The more time you need to replace your gloves or let your hands heal the less time you have to swing the bat.

  1. BRUCE BOLT Original Series Short Cuff Batting Gloves
  2. Marucci Blacksmith Full WRAP Adult Batting Glove V2

But there are a ton of cheaper options too. Again, Amazon has a great return policy so if the gloves don't fit you can simply return them. But if you're a big feel guy then go to your local baseball store and pick some out.

Weighted bats and what the pros do

This one surprises a lot of players. Most pro hitters don’t actually use traditional weighted bats (like the heavy warm-up doughnuts or overload trainers you see at local fields). Instead, they use more precise tools that train bat speed, barrel control, and swing efficiency without throwing off their timing or mechanics. Instead of swinging a super heavy bat, pros use slightly heavier and slightly lighter versions of their game bat. That way they don't throw off their swing. Honestly, I just use old bats. I have a bucket of older baseball bats that are slightly heavier and I have older baseball bats that are slightly heavier and I just use those. If you don't have old bats or you want to use what the pros use check out the options below.

  2. What I do: Easton | Havoc Baseball Bat

Muscles mean harder hits

This one is obvious and not so obvious. It's obvious because MOST little leaguers will never hit it further than the average high schooler. But it's not so obvious when you've got guys like José Altuve hitting home runs and he's one of the tiniest guys I've ever seen. But we don't want to train for bigger muscles. We want to train for explosive muscles. Think Olympic lifts over powerlifts. A performance training gym will probably be your best bet but if you need a couple of things you can use at home, I've got you.

  1. Cheap Resistance Bands: You'll need a pole. I use my stair banister but a doorknob might work too.
  2. Training Equipment: This set is great because it can fit in your trunk and you can go to the park or anywhere you have 20 feet of space.
  3. If you're serious about power, find a gym near you.

Resistance Trainer

Batting equipment

As I said in the beginning, if you want to swing harder, you need to swing the bat.... A lot. Gimmicks and fun tools help but they don't replace swinging the bat. As Bruce Lee said "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times" There are a couple of tools that can help make it faster, and easier to swing the bat a lot.

Batting Tee

  1. Batting Net: Any batting net will do fine. That way when you hit the balls you don't have to run out to center field and pick them up. Just hit them straight into the net and easy pick up.
  2. Batting Tee: Full disclosure, I don't have this tee. But the tee we currently have falls over a lot and the rubber pops off almost ever swing. I bought a cheap tee because I thought "all tees are the same". I wish I bought this one.
  3. Bucket of baseballs: Another full disclosure, I don't have these baseballs. Because different age groups use different size baseballs and every baseball has a bit different of grip and feel, etc. But just hitting off the tee, these will do just fine.

Mechanics

Baseball 365 days a year

Last, and possibly one of the most important is mechanics. There are three options: cheap, expensive, and I'm currently testing out.

  1. Cheap: Watch videos and copy their swing. I'm currently gathering pro swings and things on my YouTube channel which is 100% free. You can watch and copy the greatest bats in our generation easy peasy.
  2. Expensive: Hire a hitting coach. There's nothing like a coach that can stand beside, behind, next to and tell you how to adjust and fix your swing. It's as easy as pie but expensive.
  3. AI app. I'm currently testing the Win Reality app and I'll update this article (or post a new article) when I have more feedback.
